The Nearness of God

Dearest Loved Ones,

Psa. 73:28 But as for me, the nearness of God is my good; I have made the Lord GOD my refuge, That I may tell of all Your works.

Please dear reader, prepare for a shock. My sweet darling Jody is in ICU at St. Josephs in Burbank.

The weekend was so beautiful as we shared precious time together at home. Enjoying the news from my last post, we rejoiced in the One who made us. Jody was not breathing well and looking forward to her lung treatment on Monday. After the procedure, a nurse noticed swelling of Jody's left arm.

This led to rapid shift in events. In the course of treating what turned out to be partial blood clots, and ruling out primary causes, multiple scans, tests, procedures, drugs etc., Jody's health became critical due to severe pericardial effusion (fluid around the heart). It all happened so fast.

I know this is a shock - especially in light of the good news from last week. But God is in control and I trust our Savior to guide Jody and me through this - and to comfort us all as we work our way through every hour. I will yet praise Him.

Because of the nature of ICU, we are unable to have you visit Jody in ICU - but you can certainly feel welcome to come to the various waiting rooms, lobby etc. to pray with us and fellowship together through this most critical and difficult time.

Rom. 11:36 For "WHO HAS KNOWN THE MIND OF THE LORD, OR WHO BECAME HIS COUNSELOR? Or WHO HAS FIRST GIVEN TO HIM THAT IT MIGHT BE PAID BACK TO HIM AGAIN?" For from Him and through Him and to Him are all things. To Him be the glory forever. Amen.

Psa. 121:0 A Song of Ascents.

I will lift up my eyes to the mountains; From where shall my help come? My help comes from the LORD, Who made heaven and earth. He will not allow your foot to slip; He who keeps you will not slumber. Behold, He who keeps Israel Will neither slumber nor sleep. The LORD is your keeper; The LORD is your shade on your right hand. The sun will not smite you by day, Nor the moon by night. The LORD will protect you from all evil; He will keep your soul. The LORD will guard your going out and your coming in From this time forth and forever.

Scotty,
You know I'm praying and am with you in spirit even though God has me up here with Dan going through our own chemo journey.
Please tell Jody that Ken and the kids send their love.
Yet will I trust the Refiner's fire and know none of this escapes his hand and attention.

The choir prayed fervently for you all last night, that God would be glorified! Bill would have come to the hospital, but he was fighting a major migraine episode, and had to conduct the rehearsal last night (Clayton is on vacation, but I filled him in so he could join us in prayer).

We will continue to pray for you today, resting in God's loving sovereignty!

In His care,

Sharon

Scott and Jody,
You do not know us, but you have been and incredible encouragement to us through this immensly painful trial you are enduring. The Lord's grace is so sufficient! We experienced the loss of our beautiful baby Faith in early January and the Lord wrapped his arms around us and allowed us to handle the pain with grace and mercy. We are praying for you and pray that He will continue to give you peace, hope, grace, mercy, and love as He so graciously bestowed on us. You are allowing everyone to see the reason we are here...to glorify our Wonderful, Merciful Saviour!

Your brother and sister in Christ,
John and Gillian Townsley

There is an APPOINTED TIME for EVERYTHIING. And there is a time for EVERY EVENT under heaven--
A time to give birth and a time to die; A time to plant and a time to uproot what is planted.
A time to kill and a time to heal; A time to tear down and a time to build up.
A time to weep and a time to laugh; A time to mourn and a time to dance.
A time to throw stones and a time to gather stones; A time to embrace and a time to shun embracing.
A time to search and a time to give up as lost; A time to keep and a time to throw away.
A time to tear apart and a time to sew together; A time to be silent and a time to speak.
A time to love and a time to hate; A time for war and a time for peace.
…He has made EVERYTHING appropriate in its time. He has also set eternity in their heart, yet so that man will not find out the work which God has done from the beginning even to the end.
--Eccl 3:1-8,11

Let us pray and wait faithfully, and keep watching God’s glory be put on display. It is all here for us so that we may worship Him.

Yours in prayer, and in Christ.
