Precious Times

May God bless all of you faithful friends!

We are grateful for your labor in prayer for us. The Lord has blessed us every hour with His closeness. He encourages us in the deep recesses of the heart as only He can. We imagine ourselves on our faces, hunkered down behind a rock at the foot of the cross; sharing our burdens with the Lord who faithfully bears them, and protects us and keeps us sheltered in His tender care. We are constantly thanking Him for His grace. Every moment we have is provided by the grace of the Almighty.

Jody and I have been given the time to talk about everything that is important to us. It always starts out with our love for Christ and all that He has accomplished. We rehearse our love for each other and talk about favorite memories. We talk about "living today only" - taking one day at a time and trusting God to lead and guide us as he has for two decades. We talk about practical matters too. It has been such a stripped down, honest time. I am told by my dear friend and Pastor John Zimmer that very few ever get the chance to express the things we are expressing to each other - because illness and death can so often be so unexpected and arrive so quickly that there is no opportunity. Some never get the chance. So we see this time as a gift from God and are soaking in every precious second we can. I'll be so bold as to suggest that you do the same with your loved ones as soon as you can.

James 4:14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.

As for an update on my bride, here are some key points. Thank you for praying for us - it is such a precious gift.
  • Even though Jody is short of breath - she is building a small measure of stamina. She is more alert overall for longer periods of time and for that we are so grateful. We have not got her out of bed into a chair yet - but she has sat up several times on the edge of her bed. Baby steps!
  • She is eating a little better! Even had a dream about food last night! Good sign! :-)
  • We've learned that while the visible tumors are shrinking, unseen cancer (too small for scans) is irritating her heart and both lungs. We are being advised to begin stronger chemo and must trust the Lord to help Jody decide if she wants this. It is the hardest decision we have ever faced - but we trust the Lord and know He will faithfully guide us.
Jody sends her most heartfelt love and appreciation to all of you. She especially enjoys receiving mail and blog posts - and is so grateful for them. It is a great way for us to enter in to praise to God as we read. Although Jody has not been able to have visitors, we are so blessed that many friends and family come to the surgery waiting room (at St. Joseph Medical Center Burbank) and fellowship with each other there. I derive so much strength from seeing these dear ones - who wait for endless hours just to get an update from me. For help finding this waiting room, call our dear friend Don Carr and he will assist you. (818-970-1753)

Psa. 18:2 The LORD is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer, My God, my rock, in whom I take refuge; My shield and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.

Scott & Jody,

Always good to see your latest post! We are continuing to go before our Lord for His mercy and provision! It's only by His grace that any of us take another breath. We are praying that Jody can get out of bed soon, and have even more time! Miss seeing you both at Grace! Just wanted you to know that we are thinking of you both and praying!

Hi Dearest Friends,

Once again, I'm humbled by the great love our heavenly Father chooses to give us in spite of us. I'm so thankful Jody still has her wonderful sense of humor. (Logan shared a little story with me. :-)
Please give her our love and a personal hug from me. I miss our "dinners" together, but one day we will fellowship forever with no more sickness, separation... We rejoice with you that our great Savior has given us an eternal hope. Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
And yes, it is a tremendous privilege that He has given you time together to spend doing what's most important. A good reminder to all of us. Hopefully see you tomorrow.

Love, Pam for the Fam...

May God bless you both and continue to give you sweet times together during these hard days. We only recently heard about this and are so so blessed to read through your blog and see God being glorified and lifted up at every opportunity in spite of very difficult circumstances. We were in Marriage Builders so very long ago (w/John Zimmer!)and are now involved with Jr. High ministry. We too, love accordian music (Vicki Anthony is truly an officiando, isn't she!) While we don't know you personally, we know of you and your amazing ministry over the years. Know we have been joining the legions who hold you up in prayer. May you feel the loving arms of our dear Savior about you as you eye that chair!

Scotty & Jody
I await your post for insight as to how to pray for you both. Several times each day I check for new updates and am always grateful when there is a new post. Scotty for you I pray that God will give you courage and fortitude, strengthening you where you are weak an giving you confidence in His power to overcome all things. Jody I pray that God will give you courage, and comfort you in your most difficult moments. I know that He hears me and your post assures me of His answers. I pray that God will keep you with us for a long long time, knowing that if not you will be around His throne, in His presence and nothing could be better than that. I am selfish I would rather have you with us. Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He will bring it to pass.

Love to you both in Christ

Dear Scott and Jody,
John and Helen (Zimmer)have been faithful to keep us posted as to Jody's progress. You are both in our prayers here in Marysville. We have come to love you because of John and Helen's love for you. (You know how it goes, you love those who love those!) John and Helen are with you now and we are so glad they can be there with you. Assure them that all is going well back home and that they can stay indefinately, but not permanently! :-) We have experienced this grace of which you speak and we are privileged to pray for Jody's recovery. So glad to hear that she is sitting up. Love to you! Terri and Fred Ronk

Dear Scott and Jody,
As I read the note from our friends the Ronks, I also felt the need to send you a note. As much as we miss our dear friends John and Helen we are so grateful they can be with you during this time and minister to you. We are so uplifted by your testimony and faithfulness and pray that your example will reach out farther than you can possibly imagine. Thank you for sharing a part of your lives with us and allowing us the opportunity to love you, weep with you, pray for you and rejoice with you.
Love from,

Dear Scott and Jody,

In your last message to us, "Precious Times," two comments especially lingered in my mind:
"Every moment we have is provided by the grace of the Almighty," AND "We talk about 'living today only', taking one day at a time and trusting God to lead and guide..."

Dear ones, the words to this beautiful hymn came to mind. I pray each line will minister to you and bring you comfort, peace and joy during this time:

DAY BY DAY and with each passing moment, strength I find to meet my trials here; trusting in my Father's wise bestowement, I've no cause for worry or for fear. He whose heart is kind beyond all measure, gives unto each day what He deems best--- Lovingly, its part of pain and pleasure, mingling toil with peace and rest.

Every day the Lord Himself is near me, with a SPECIAL MERCY FOR EACH HOUR; all my cares He fain would bear, and cheer me, He whose name is Counselor and Power. The protection of His child and treasure, is a charge that on Himself He laid; "As your days, your strength shall be in measure," this the pledge to me He made.

Help me then in every tribulation so to trust Your promises,O Lord, that I lose not faith's SWEET CONSOLATION, offered me within Your holy Word. Help me, Lord, when toil and trouble meeting, E'er to take, as from a fathers' hand, one by one, the days, the moments fleeting, till I reach the promised land.

Praise His Holy Name.
With Much Love and Prayer,
Sherri and Bob Crawford

Dear Scott and Jody,

We read your blog faithfully and pray often for you both. Thank you for being so open at a time when it would be so easy to be private. Thank you for allowing all of us to enter into your lives and share your trials. We pray for God's strength for both of you today and the next and also for His wisdom in knowing what He would have you do.

What a joy and blessing you both are. You remain in our prayers.

Dear Jody & Scott,
Scott, I know you might not remember me but I'm Ken's Mom. I have such wonderful memories of time's when I was fortunate to be able to share precious moments around Jody. She was always bubbly, smiling and added much to family gatherings. She has been on my mind and heart so much these last months I know God's grace is upon her and you.

Dear Siblings in Christ, friends, and co-heirs to His eternal blessings. Thank you so much for keeping us all "posted". I'm glad you are seeing and making the most of this time in your marriage. Hard as it is, it is a precious time to depend on God for your all, share your hearts with one another, and look to Christ's loving body for prayers and practical help. I know firsthand that that is what must be done. God will give you all the precious time, as is for your good.
